Jonathan V. Galaviz
Note: Mr. Galaviz is currently on unpaid leave from GMA while serving in the Trump Administration in Washington DC on a full-time basis at the U.S. Department of State. The bio below precedes his engagement in federal government service.
Jonathan Galaviz is GMA’s Chief Strategist and is one of America’s leading experts on the Asia-Pacific region, with a focus on economic development, trade, and political analysis. He has served as principal advisor to CEO’s and CFO’s of Fortune 500 companies such as Caesars Entertainment, Goldman Sachs, Google, and Uber on international development, public affairs, private equity, and corporate finance.
Over the last decade, Galaviz has led large consulting teams in diverse and fast-moving environments in over 15 countries. He frequently appears on CNBC, BBC, and Bloomberg TV and speaks at several conferences every year. He’s also frequently sought for his views on travel and leisure sector; including airlines, casino gaming, hotels, and government tourism policy.
Galaviz started his career at the U.S. Senate in Washington DC as a professional paid staffer in late 1995 until mid-1996 when he then returned to college. From the late 1990’s until 2001 he was a senior management consultant to leading Silicon Valley companies such as Cisco, Kleiner Perkins, Sun Microsystems, and Sequoia Capital where he advised on mergers and acquisitions, organizational change, restructuring, and corporate finance.
In 2001, Galaviz was recruited to Mandalay Resort Group (now MGM Resorts International) as a Senior Project Analyst in the corporate technology group. At MRG he lead strategy teams on internet gaming, Asia-Pacific growth, and corporate strategy. He left MRG to start his own management consulting and research firm.
Since late 2002 Galaviz been under the Global Market Advisors (GMA) platform and its prior entity iterations, with offices located in Denver, Las Vegas, Bangkok and Taiwan.
Galaviz has taught strategy, finance, and economics at the university level at various institutions as a guest lecturer. He also served as Dean (Interim) for the University of Nevada’s (UNLV) campus in Singapore in 2011 to conduct a special financial situation turnaround – he successfully completed the turnaround in less than a year.
Jonathan holds an MBA from Oxford University (England) and is a graduate of the New Mexico Military Institute (NMMI). In 1997 he studied Asia-Pacific finance at the National University of Singapore (NUS) as a foreign exchange scholar. In 2000 he completed the Managing Technology and Strategic Innovation (MTSI) executive education program at Stanford GSB.
Galaviz was the co-founder and first President of The Economic Club of Las Vegas, a prestigious non-profit and non-partisan forum, which has hosted several U.S. national politicians and economists. Galaviz lives in a combination of Washington DC, Las Vegas, and Bangkok.
